Last night was our annual Christmas concert. The hall was packed with people and the feel of Christmas was upon us. The event warmed up with everyone singing to the popular Christmas carol ‘The First Nowell’. The audience was then treated to a robust medley of songs performed by our Horn Ensemble. Talented Libby Sherwood who is a member of the National Youth Orchestra followed by playing a spectacular version of ‘Aint Necessarily So’ By Gershwin and then she was joined by her friend Sophia Ramnarine on the cello and did a rendition of ‘Rondo’ by Beethoven.

There were many more talented solo performances including a guitar piece composed and performed by Alex Mitton. Jonathan Abbott impressed the crowd with his skills on the Xylophone and Lana Summad from year 13 shared with the audience her beautiful voice by singing Adolphe-Charles Adam’s piece ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Ave Maria’ by Gounod.

The evening also included four more ensembles one being a Sitar Ensemble, which was brilliantly performed by Rajan Lotay and Vishal Panesar and his younger brother Satvir who isn’t old enough to come to Beauchamp yet but was very happy to join in.

The GCSE Band directed by music teacher Robert Abba did a fun arrangement of ‘Jingle Bells’ and the A-Level Choir sung ‘Past Three O’clock’ and ‘Here Comes Santa Claus’ by Autry and Haldeman.

Many teachers were involved in the event with music teachers Matthew Holmes and Robert Abba directing and conducting various pieces as well as performing with two students in a brass consort. Two English teachers Joe Gilford and Ollie Rowe did readings which included Luke 2: 1-20 and the poem ‘Christmas’ by John Betjeman. Anthony Anderson Head of music who had organised the concert played the piano for the four carols sung by the audience as well as conducting and directing various pieces and finished the evening playing the keys in a jazz band that finished the evening with a swing.

Well done to all who took part in a successful and enjoyable evening.
