Former student Jassa Ahluwalia who graduated from Beauchamp in 2009 will be starring in the highly anticipated BBC drama ‘The Whale’.

The premiere will be on Sunday 22 December at 9pm. ‘The Whale’ is based on the story of the whale-ship Essex, which was sunk by a whale in 1820. Jassa’s character will be Owen Coffin and he will be starring alongside Charles Furness (young Nickerson) and Martin Sheen (elder Nickerson) and many more distinguished actors.

The BBC Description of the drama is this:

“The action-packed narrative follows Nickerson as, against all odds, he comes through the worst that nature throws at him, growing up fast in the process. He faces the destructive force of sea storms, the power of whales, the brutal desolation of the sun and sea after the shipwreck, and finally, the grim realities of dark deeds as his only means of survival.

With breathtaking underwater shots and specialist equipment used to create storm scenes, The Whale beautifully captures the Essex caught in the treacherous sea storm.”

Jassa has recently acted in ‘Ripper Street’ and has previously made an appearance in shows such as Casualty and Art Attack.
