On Tuesday 3rd March we took ten of our Politics students in Year 12 and 13 to take part in the ITV School Debate. This was an event that we had been invited to and our students were part of a pre-recorded debate with other students from across the midlands. Students discussed their feelings about the election, politicians and key priorities they feel should be addressed by the next government. These ranged from ideas such as educating young people more about politics, the expense of tuition fees, the problems in the NHS and the need to provide young people suffering from mental health more support.
As can be expected, our students provided a wide-range of articulate, knowledgeable and well-crafted responses; it was clear that they were engaged in political issues and current affairs. They clearly enjoyed the opportunity to converse with other students and were excited about the prospect of being on TV. The debate it expected to be aired on Tuesday 10th March on ITV Central News at 6.
This is the second event we have been involved in with ITV, who recently came in to film our local MP Edward Garnier engaging with our students. Students are now beginning to get quite excited about the General Election and our own college mock election.
