Last night Beauchamp College held its annual Christmas Concert. The evening began with a warm musical welcome in the foyer by Kieran Das and Aleesha Patel on their cellos and Head of Music Mr Anderson on the grand piano.
The main event took place in the hall, which was decked with twinkling lights and snowflakes and it was packed with people all eagerly awaiting a showcase of performances by our talented students. The first act was the Madrigal Choir who crept into the back of the room and sang from there a beautiful rendition of ‘Remember’ by Ravenscroft. Throughout the event the choir treated the audience with songs including ‘Deck The Halls’.
Year 11 student Ruth Barrett then sung a superb version of Silent Night accompanied by Conor Sherrard on the guitar followed by flute teacher Jenny Brooks and her tutees performing three songs including the well known song ‘Dance of the Swans’ from the ballet Swan Lake.
The audience were then given a fantastic treat from the very talented String trio; Sophie Ramnarine and Alec Smith on the cello and Libby Sherwood on the violin, who filled the hall with the sounds of Concerto for cello in C, 1st movement by Haydn.
Matthew Farrell from Year 13 then reached some impressive octaves singing the Italian song ‘Cara Sposa’ by Handal, which was the song that he recently sung for his successful audition to be a scholar next year at Hereford Cathedral. Another solo piece was by Molly Bexon who shared her beautiful voice with the audience singing ‘In The Bleak Mid-Winter’.
There was a cultural twist to the evening with Vishal Panaseer and his younger brother Satvir Playing a sitar and tabla duet called ‘Rag Misharpeelu’ which was a real joy to see.
John Shields and Billy Stevely took part in a piano duet playing the very popular song ‘Frozen’ by Beck and did it real justice.
There were many ensembles over the evening from both Year 10 and Year 11 students including ‘Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’ which the audience also took great delight in singing along to.
The evening also included two readings, which were read by Mr Anderson and English teacher Mr Rowe. There was also a chance for the audience to sing some of their favourite carols.
Well done to all who took part in a successful and enjoyable evening. |
