In October, two Year 13 students heard about a Radio 1 competition, which would involve creating a music video proposing their college as the best host for the ‘Best day Ever’ prize. Students, Joe Bullivant and Roy Weller set about creating their footage, which showcased media teacher Mr Edwards in the starring role. The video was very successful and brought them through into the finals of the competition. The final round of the competition involved:
- Mr Edwards had to create a dream college timetable, based around DJ’s Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills and Greg James, if they were to come to Beauchamp.
- Finally Mr Edwards had 30 seconds to wow the DJ’s with Children In Need fundraising ideas that the College had already planned.
Unfortunately we didn’t win despite Mr Edwards efforts, however Radio 1 did offer for a group of students to come and visit the studio and to have the opportunity to meet the DJs and to see Olly Murs perform live.
Mr Edwards then organised a competition at Beauchamp, encouraging students to redesign the SAM learning poster, which is a poster that helps to remind students to log on and to revise. The seven runners up and the winner would then win themselves a place on the trip joining the group, which already included Joe and Roy. There were many applicants and brilliant designs, which were then narrowed down to the final eight.
The runners up were:
Megan Bridges, Sarah Adcock and Maisie Swannell from Year 11. Lewis Grice, Nurayna Karim and Alyesha Chand from Year 12. Max Perry from Year 13.
The winner was Jinni Sur, whose winning poster is pictured right.
The group travelled to London on 1 December, they had a fantastic day, which included meeting Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw, Scott Mills and the singer Olly Murs, they also had the opportunity to have a go at presenting on a mock radio session. It was a super day enjoyed by all and a once in a lifetime experience, which the group would never have experienced if it wasn’t for two talented Year 13 boys and the support of Mr Edwards. |
