The Big Knit is a campaign run by Innocent Drinks in aid of Age UK to help vulnerable older people. As many as 25,000 older people may die needlessly this winter because of the cold. The money raised through the Big Knit supports our Spread the Warmth campaign, helping older people during the cold winter months through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services. Normally the knitted hats go on top of ‘Innocent’ drinks and 25p of every drink sold goes to Age UK. However, here at Beauchamp we went one better – Jacqui Taylor and Deb Bache, with the help of a few other staff members knitted over 200 hats. All proceeds from the sale of the hats, together with other contributions have amounted to a total of £306 going direct to Age UK (Oadby and Wigston) and any hats not sold have been sent to ‘Innocent’ for their drinks to wear. Naina Gandhi and two ladies from Age UK (Oadby & Wigston) came to the college on Thursday 13 November to collect the cheque.
